Hey, it’s Liz & Oleg 👋
Celebrity.Compare began as a fun side project that we created for our small movie club of friends. Liz dedicated herself to building a unique dataset from multiple sources, gathering images and inspiration from the world of cinema.
Meanwhile, Oleg focused on developing an algorithm to bring it all together. What started as a lighthearted way to spark conversations among friends has grown into a service we’re thrilled to share with everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions
- We compare it with our gallery and forget it. The server holds it in memory only during the comparison, and we save neither the photo nor anything made from it. We don’t sell it or train anything on it. Your browser keeps a copy for a day, so you can change filters or reload the page without choosing the photo again. “Delete photo” removes it sooner.
- A neural network finds the face in your photo and turns it into 512 numbers. Photos of the same person get similar numbers, photos of different people don’t. We compare your numbers with each of our nearly 300,000 celebrity photos and show you the people who come closest.
- How close your face is to theirs, on our own scale. The big number comes from their closest photo. Flip through the others to see how each one scores.
- Light, angle, expression, glasses and age all change how a face looks, and the comparison notices. Try two or three photos. Whoever keeps showing up is your real lookalike.
- We guess both from the photo, so mistakes happen. Correct them on your card next to the photo, and the filters will use what you set.
- Over 142,000 famous people: actors, musicians, athletes, politicians, scientists, royals and more. We only use photos with a free licence, so a star without one isn’t here, however famous they are.
- Only if you ask. We hide villains until you pick the Villains preset.
- No. We keep anonymous statistics, like how many people upload a photo or share a match, but we can’t tell who you are. We don’t use tracking cookies.
- We don’t. The site is free, and we pay for the server ourselves.
